Alexia Xafopoulou | Cloud in the Room

Alexia Xafopoulou
Cloud in the Room

The title of the exhibition is interpreted both literally and metaphorically as it references to the phrase: Elephant in the Room. Xafopoulou the ‘elephant’ in this case is the medium of painting itself. The subject matter of the cloud, its immateriality and its transformative nature, allow Xafopoulou to study and comment on the current role of painting; a remark and a reminder regarding the medium itself and its materials: the thread, the fabric, the paint amidst them all.

On a different level, the chosen subject matter reflects the fluidity of an aerial body transcending the charged topic of geographical boundaries of the current sociopolitical agenda.
