The Sound of the Leaves Between
Nitra Gallery Thessaloniki presents the new solo exhibition by Philippos Theodorides.
In The Sound of the Leaves Between, Philippos Theodoridis transforms an everyday moment of observation into a contemplative act of painting. The starting point of the work, as the artist himself describes, emerged from an intimate, almost meditative gaze:
“I was observing the shades of green under the sunlight and the shadows formed as one leaf overlapped another. The organic shapes of the leaves often reminded me of the human figure, and their clean, simple forms.”
From this process arose a series of works that explore the relationship between the visible and the invisible, matter and transparency, silence and sound. Nature is not depicted as landscape but as rhythm and breath, a living surface that pulsates between light and shadow.
Through photography, drawing, collage, and painting, Theodoridis deconstructs organic forms and transforms them into abstract pictorial structures, pure, soft, almost sonic. The “sound” in the title is not literal; it is the sound of attention, the subtle pulse of the moment, where the gaze “listens” and the light “speaks.”
